The Secret Members

The Secret Members are an Essex based band coming from Stanford-le-hope and Brentwood, and were formed in may 2007, after brothers Greg Smith(vocals) and Paul Smith (rhythm guitar) had, had enough of playing in their band “Hope Addicts” for 2 and a half years, and not really getting anywhere. They eventually called it a day after Greg met Dave Harmsworth (Bass guitar), and he asked Greg if he would like to sing with him, Lee Read(lead guitar) and Chris Murrell (drums) as they were looking to form a band. Meato (lee) and Dave have been playing together for years as they grew up with each other at school. Chris had, at the time just left his old band and was looking for people to start jamming with. He had played with Dave before and they decided to hook up and start practising. Greg was invited to sing with them and as soon as they heard his voice, they knew he was the front man they were looking for.

Not wanting to leave his brother “band less”, Greg told Meato, Dave and Chris that he would bring Paul along to the next practise session, to play rhythm guitar. No one had a problem with this, and the first practise we had together, we all knew it was the start of something good.

After only being together for 2 weeks, we entered a battle of the bands competition, as it had been booked up with the old band and we thought, what the hell, we’ve got nothing to lose. We ended up winning the heat and getting through to the semi finals, where the journey ended.

In June 2007 we were asked by Chris’s uncle Mick Geggus if we would like to support The cockney rejects, at the Astoria 2. Needless to say we jumped at the chance! A few months later (September 2007) we were offered a record deal with G and R Productions, which we was not going to turn down. December 2007 soon came round quick, so we were of to Newcastle to record our debut album “Beneath The Radar”. After a cold, but productive week the album was recorded and was due to be mixed down in the new year.

We were then asked again to support the cockney rejects at the Astoria 2 in February 2008, as the main support act, again we jumped at the chance. March 2008 we get told the album has been mixed down, so we all meet up, to listen to a copy of the finished product , which we are all more than happy with.

Our debut single “Sunshine” is due out on the 17th June 2008 for download only from iTunes. It will come with a b side of a live recording of Jellersersizing, recorded at the Astoria 2. We are, among other gigs, playing at The 100 Club in oxford street, London, on the 27th June 2008 to promote the new single and it will be our most important gig to date. This is “the big one” and could very well be the making of “The Secret Members”.

Our debut album “Beneath The Radar” is due out in October 2008, which will follow a full UK tour to promote our debut album.
