Birdeatsbaby

Alternative Rock

abouttheband

“Sweetheart, my darling, slightly charming, wrap me in nettles and thorns.”

Classically inspired, with their own brand of progressive freak-punk, Birdeatsbaby have created a sound that can only be described as “a bunch of spurned Sunday-school teachers exacting their musical revenge“.

The Brighton based quartet have gone from strength to strength since forming in November 2007 – self-releasing their debut album Here She Comes-a-Tumblin’, touring extensively in the UK and Europe and creating three music videos, each one as beautiful as they are different (and each directed by drummer Philippa Bloomfield).

Unlike any other band in sound and appearance, Birdeatsbaby have an almost complete disregard for current musical trends and fashions, encouraging their followers to break away from the norm and share their strange world, where lead singer Mishkin adopts various parodies of society, going from God-fearing sinner to sex-addict to domestic victim, throughout the bizarre but beautiful songs.

Hitchcock inspired and lyrically indecent, “the birds” are an odd but unforgettable group, working hard to build a direct connection with their fans, sharing their thoughts and passion for original music through online social networks and during live performances.

Not for everyone’s taste, like strong coffee (or absinthe), the birds are coming to a stage near you… so come see for yourself… and be ready.

Sad News From The Nest27 Jul 2010 05:18 PM
Dear birds, As some of already know about this news I'm sure it will come as no surprise, but we felt it was time to make an official statement. Ella our beloved cello player is no longer with us :( She is now pursuing a teaching career (music teaching of course) and simply will not have the time it takes to be in such a busy band. While we parted very amicably, we will miss her terribly and wish her all the best for the future. So, if you happen to be in school, and your new music teacher has a devilish glint in her eye, and looks pretty sexy. Then it just might be, THE CHEZ... We will however be keeping very much in touch with Chezzer and she may well reappear in band goings on, but for now, she has flown the nest and will be appearing in a school near you. So... what next? Initially we thought we would look for another cellist/singer but have decided that it is probably best if we continue as a four-piece, mix a few things round and, well, learn how to use a micro-Korg. Await a new sound as we head to America next year to record our new album. If you want to catch us with our new line-up (and new look) come along to the Secret Garden Party next weekend! We play at the Feast of Fools stage on Saturday 24th, buy tickets HERE http://www.seetickets.com/secretgardenparty2009/price.asp?code=410025&filler1=see&filler2=multisee before it sells out! More (happier) news on the new EP (out in October), songbook (so nearly finished) and upcoming tourdates (with BITTER RUIN) soon. Love & Feathers, Birdeatsbaby x
Birdes Fly To America!13 Jun 2010 10:39 PM
Dearest Birds, You may want to sit down for this blog, it’s a big one. Our biggest news ever in fact… Birdeatsbaby are proud to announce we will be going to America!! …to record our next full length album with award winning producer Jason Rubal. http://www.myspace.com/jasonrubal His production facility in Pennsylvania is one of the best, and many AMAZING artists have benefited from his skills. Namely friends of ours Bitter Ruin who had their incredible album recorded by Jason early this year. If you haven’t heard it, you can check them out here... http://www.myspace.com/bitterruin Our trip to America will be happening in February 2011, but we begin pre-production this November… Too long to wait? Fear not. Our new EP is due for release in September and sounding mighty fine. More news on that later though! Anyway, here is a little bit about Jason… Jason freelances from a multi-million dollar studio where the clients include Dave Grohl, Henry Rollins, Aretha Franklin, and all six major labels. His private facility, Seventh Wave is where he develops and produces artists of his choice one at a time. From there he has worked with six record labels and his artists have been on the NIN World Tour, Lollapalooza Tour, Vans Warped Tour, Halo Star World Tour and others. He has worked in capacity with members of The Dresden Dolls, The Cure, Killswitch Engage, and has charted #1 on CMJ (Ben Folds took the #2 spot). Jason has developed a big name for himself in the underground world of music by working on successful records from artists on the fringes of the mainstream. He is best known for getting a raw sound and grabbing the emotion in the room. His records are described as "flawless without sounding too perfect" and for this reason he gets booked a year in advance with some of the hottest bands from around the world. As you can imagine, we are more than a little bit excited! In fact, you can see how we feel by the picture you can see. We plan on playing a couple of shows out there if we can manage it too, so if anyone on the East Coast is up for putting on a show, get in touch by emailing us back here! http://www.birdeatsbaby.co.uk/contact.php In other news, the shows with Richard Kapp & Bitter Ruin over the bank holiday were great fun, thanks to all of you who made it! ☺ You can read Richard’s blog on his visit to the UK here http://www.richardkapp.com/ The next month will be dominated by writing, practicing and planning…mwahahahahahaha. Then we hit the road again. Look for us at The Secret Garden Party! Till then, ta ta birdies, love & feathers, The Birds xxx www.myspace.com/birdeatsbaby http://www.facebook.com/birdeatsbaby http://twitter.com/birdeatsbaby
