abouttheband
A London-born singer/songwriter, Stephanie spent her childhood immersed in music and performing from very early on. Growing up in Dubai, and getting some sun in her blood, she began playing Classical piano at 6 years old, and singing in choirs: first school, then touring Youth Chorales, then Chamber Choirs, including singing with the Mozart Players and Royal Philharmonic.
Coming from a family steeped in Theatre (her Mum, Aunt, Grandmother and Uncle were all actors and her Grandfather, John Counsell, founded and ran the Theatre Royal Windsor for 40 years), it is perhaps not surprising that Stephanie acted before concentrating on music, training professionally with Sonia Jones (Jodie Brooke-Wilson/ Max Tuohy), Lloyd Wade (Daniel Beddingfield) and Robert Bicknell (Natalie Imbruglia.)
Three months after starting as a solo artist and performing on the London showcase scene, Stephanie was spotted playing at The Bedford and approached by management who said she had "something special". She has since drawn much interest from major labels and producers, whilst establishing her style, as well as building up a following with regular showcases at all the usual London suspects.
Stephanie hails from the bluesy, folk/rock, alternative school of music and, in her own words, is "inspired by the greats who sang from the heart," citing Ella Fitzgerald, Judy Garland, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, John Mayer and Snow Patrol as some of her biggest influences. What she's singing is the most important thing to Stephanie and all her songs have a strong story-telling aspect.
Her lyrics are feisty, heart-felt, often with a tongue-in-cheek, twinkly-eyed undertone. She writes, "what she knows about", love-life (or lack thereof), loneliness, hope, verbal diatribe, -" you know, the usual."
Writing on her own until recently, Stephanie is now collaborating with various top producers and co-writers, including Adam Argyll, Dee Adam and Mark Weston, who have, amongst many others, helped rocket Newton Faulkner, Natalie Imbruglia, Natasha Beddingfield and Kylie to fame. She has recorded with Guy Chambers, Chris Bucknall (RCA) and Anthony Gorry (Paul Macdonald).
Stephanie has always been hugely keen to be involved with Charity events, and using creative gifts to help better situations: "I don't want to sound like one of those annoying "I want to do good with my music" people, but I want to do good with my music." She has played at special Charity gigs for Hanna's Orphanage, - which raises money for Aids-affected orphans in Ethiopia, and, more recently, she was honoured to be guest performer at Fundraising gala dinner "Howard's Way Walk', helping to raise over £80,000 within the events, advertising and creative arena, for Pancreatic cancer.
Piano is Stephanie’s first love but she wants to learn to play the guitar, it's easier carrying one of those around...
